QUAY ADVICE FOR STUDENTS
Know when to call it a night
After indulging in a little Freshers-fun, it’s time to knuckle down and get into a good routine that works for you. It’s important to make sure you get enough sleep – a good 8 hours will sort you right out so you’re up and at ‘em ready for those 9am lectures!
Whether you’ve had a long night in the library or one too many in the student union, we all know there’s no better feeling than getting home and star fishing in bed. So, we say, spoil yourself! Make that precious shuteye a little more luxurious, by treating yourself to some quality Christy bedding – from dreamy sheets with high thread counts to filled products like big fluffy pillows and cosy quilts, we guarantee you’ll have the best kip you’ve ever had. Pssst, Brucie bonus there’s up to 70% off the RRP every day!
Deck the student halls
Your time spent living in student halls will be fond memories you’ll cherish forever. But let’s face it, student bedrooms pretty much all look the same when you move in. So, customising your own little space and adding that personal touch will really help make it feel like home. After you’ve spent several longggg hours writing essays in the library, you’ll need a lush little room to relax in. You probably won’t have a huge amount of space, so it’s important to make the most out of what you’ve got to work with.
We’d recommend picking up items like a desk organiser, to help keep everything in order. Primark’s stationery and homeware is to die for – stay sophisticated and on trend with a copper/rose gold effect or let your personality shine through and stock up on all things Disney! When it comes to your little study sanctuary, you’re going to want to create an area that you’ll love to work in, somewhere that gets your creative juices flowing, where you can be at your most productive.
The likelihood is you won’t be able to paint your new room your fave colour, but you can still spruce it up a bit, to make it feel more like your own. Whether it’s adding some colourful cushions or picking up some wall art to liven up the place, you’ll find the perfect pieces for you at Wallpaper-it, Julian Charles or Next.
Hanging fairy lights is also a quick-fix to help make your room super-cute and snug. Skulls? Cactus? Or unicorns? Whatever your style, Damaged Society can help you light up your life.
Making your space feel homely doesn’t have to break the bank – it’s the small touches that make all the difference. You’ll be amazed at the amount of bargains you can find at Princes Quay. Spoiler alert – our Next Outlet has a fab home section that’s perfect for picking up little bits of décor and furniture for super cheap.
All work and no play
After a long day of lectures, you’re going to want to let off some steam. That’s why Superbowl UK Hull on Quayside Level 1 is the perfect place to have some fun and hang with friends off campus. They have an ace arcade with everything from retro faves like 2p machines, to SEGA classics.
Strike it lucky at their 12-lane state of the art bowling alley or run riot at Laser Quest – it’s a great ice-breaker and good way to get to know your housemates. Who wouldn’t want to hide, seek, attack and defend in a huge ultra-violet, fog filled laser arena? After a game or three, head for a celebratory drink in the bar area. We recommend their Alco Slushes and they’re only 3 quid!
If getting physical isn’t your thing, unwind after a long day by catching the latest blockbusters on the big screen at Vue Cinema on Level 4. Standard tickets are only £4.99 (the cheapest in Hull!) and if you’re feeling flush, you can upgrade to VIP seats for a teensy bit extra. Salted or sweet popcorn? Loaded nachos or hankering for a hotdog? You just can’t beat cinema snacks and Vue stocks the lot! Not forgetting the real MVP, that is the Tango Ice Blast. That oughta tempt you off campus…
Why not round the night off with a tasty meal with friends? Did you know PQ has its very own Student Saver Card? That will get you special offers and discounts at selected stores all year round. Including 10% off your cheeky Nando’s! From PERi-PERi to the perfect slice at Pizza Express, you can discover a great night out at Princes Quay fo’sure.
Flying the nest and moving away from home for the first time is a great way for you to learn how to stand on your own two feet and help transform you into a strong independent individual *sassy finger snap*. After your first student loan payment hits your bank account and the initial ‘treat yoself’ novelty has worn off – we hate to say it, but it’s time to learn how to plan and budget!
Say hello to your new best friend for life – good old Tupperware! All those takeaways will start to take their toll on your wallet and your waistline. So, cook up a big batch of your fave meal and bash it into cute Tupperware boxes from Primark, to see you through the week. You can even stick them in your freezer and save that delish casserole like mumma used to make, for a rainy day, literally – you can’t beat a hot casserole when it’s miserable outside. It’s also super handy for stashing snacks in your bag for a little mid-lecture pick-me-up.
Save those pennies and the planet! Dashing to your next lecture, from one end of campus to the other can be thirsty work. Rather than buying a bottle of water from a vending machine or canteen, help the environment by picking up one of these trusty reusable £5 bottles from Gift Company. That way, you’re reducing single-use plastic and not spending money every time you need to rehydrate – win, win! It keeps your drinks hot for 8 hours and cold for 12 hours, so it’ll see you right through the day.
Want to know one of the best things about being a student? Taking advantage of all the student discounts and offers out there! Which, quids in, will also help you when it comes to budgeting and saving. This is the one time in your life where you get exclusive discounts for being skint, so flash that student card wherever and whenever you can.
